Lehi (8-2) moves into the 6A quarterfinals and will host No. 12 American Fork (5-6) next Friday. The Pioneers and Cavemen met on Sept. 20 and Lehi ended up with a 34-10 Region 3 victory. AF advanced to the quarterfinals with a 21-17 upset of No. 5 seed Farmington.
Eka scored three touchdowns in the first half, including a 37-yard screen pass to the end zone from Jett Niu. Big plays from Madsen and Glasker set up the first two Eka scoring runs and Glasker also scored on an 81-yard reception. Gavin Fenn booted a 56-yard field goal and the Pioneers led 37-0 at halftime.
“We’ve got guys everywhere on our team,” Madsen said. So it’s like, whoever the ball goes to, it’s going far. We get the ball to everyone and they drop it in the best place for us to score. Our coaches give us the best chance to win against people. “That’s what’s the best for playing with them.”
Ezaiah Mama had a first-half interception return for touchdown called back because of a penalty but made up for it in the second half by scooping up a fumble and rumbling 45 yards for a score. The second have was played under a running clock due to the mercy rule.
“We’re going to handle our business,” Lehi coach Ed Larson said. “We’ll take a look at the film. We’ll figure out what it says to us, as far as where we have to spend our time on the field, making corrections on mistakes. I think there’s a bigger piece there that we’ve got to handle, and that’s just the maturity level that we got to have these next few games. We can’t lose our minds, lose control of ourselves, and just have dumb penalties.”
