Valley Top 5: Lehi football moves to the top, Orem right behind

Each week, Daily Herald sports experts Jared Lloyd and Darnell Dickson rank the top five teams in the Utah Valley in football, girls soccer and girls volleyball (records as of Sept. 16):

FOOTBALL

1. Lehi (4-0)

DeVaughn Eka, Mays Madsen big offensive weapons for Pioneers.

2. Orem (5-0)

Tigers blank Wasatch 37-0 to remain unbeaten.

3. Lone Peak (4-1)

Knights defense roughed up in 49-35 loss at Centennial (Calif.).

4. Maple Mountain (5-0)

Eli Mauga (3 TD’s) leads big second-half comeback vs. Cedar Valley.

5. Spanish Fork (4-1)

Dons passing combo of McKay Smith to Brock Jacobson is lethal.

GIRLS SOCCER

1. Lone Peak (11-0)

The Knights better not come out flat Tuesday when they play on the road against a sneaky-good Pleasant Grove squad.

2. Timpanogos (7-1)

The Timberwolves got a big win at Orem, playing one of their best games of the season.

3. Lehi (11-2)

The Pioneer defense did pretty well against Lone Peak but the offense couldn’t find a way to break through.

4. American Fork (8-3)

The Cavemen can’t look past Westlake as they prepare for the Lone Peak rematch on Thursday.

5. Maple Mountain (7-4)

The Golden Eagles have bounced back from a rough preseason to sweep through Region 7 so far.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

1. Lone Peak (7-1)

Knights back on top after four-set win at Pleasant Grove.

2. Pleasant Grove (14-1)

Vikings need to respond after first loss of season.

3. Salem Hills (10-4)

Tuesday matchup with Maple Mountain is a good one.

4. Orem (9-4)

Sarah and Scarlett Page are the heartbeat of the Tigers.

5. Timpview (8-5)

T-Birds will be tested Thursday vs. Salem Hills.
