Valley Top 5: Lone Peak achieves rare trifecta, sits atop rankings in all three fall sports

Each week, Daily Herald sports experts Jared Lloyd and Darnell Dickson rank the top five teams in the Utah Valley in football, girls soccer and girls volleyball (records as of Sept. 30):

FOOTBALL

1. Lone Peak (6-1)

Knights put up 35 points in second quarter vs. American Fork.

2. Skyridge (5-2)

Can Falcons take down No. 1 for second straight week? Lone Peak is next.

3. Lehi (5-1)

Pioneers suffer first setback, still in the 6A hunt.

4. Orem (6-1)

Akana, Iongi, Ka’awa lead explosive Tigers offense.

5. (tie) Spanish Fork (6-1)

Dons have crucial Region 8 matchup with Provo this week.

Stout Golden Eagles fall from ranks of unbeaten vs. Orem.

GIRLS SOCCER

1. Lone Peak (13-0)

Just two games stand between the Knights and another perfect regular season.

2. Timpanogos (10-2)

The Timberwolves got rolling again but face another big battle when they host Orem on Thursday.

3. Maple Mountain (10-4)

The Golden Eagles needed double overtime but found a way to get the win at Springville.

4. Lehi (11-5)

The Pioneers aren’t getting enough goals yet and finishing is always at a premium at state.

5. American Fork (9-5)

The Cavemen dropped a pair of tough games but need to regroup quickly with the playoffs looming.

1. Lone Peak (15-1)

Knights have won 14 straight matches, surging to top of 6A.

2. Pleasant Grove (17-1)

Vikings have rematch with Lone Peak on Tuesday, Knights won first meeting.

3. Orem (14-4)

Tigers meet up with hot Mountain View team on Tuesday.

4. Timpview (12-5)

T-Birds on six match winning streak sitting atop Region 7.

5. Salem Hills (11-6)

Skyhawks trying to emerge in competitive Region 7.
