Valley Top 5: Back in action across the board after spring break

Each week, Daily Herald sports experts Jared Lloyd and Darnell Dickson rank the top five teams in the Utah Valley in baseball, softball, boys soccer, boys volleyball and boys and girls lacrosse (records as of April 6):

BASEBALL

1. Pleasant Grove (9-1)

Vikings’ Mason Hawk Henry with homer, four RBI in win vs. Riverton.

2. Maple Mountain (10-1)

What’s better than a South County series vs. Spanish Fork?

3. American Fork (8-2)

Opens Region 3 play with three-game series against Lone Peak.

4. Skyridge (7-2)

Falcons, Vikings start off Region 3 with a banger of a series.

5. Timpanogos (12-4)

Senior Collin Morgan hitting .467 with 14 RBI for T-Wolves.

SOFTBALL

1. Salem Hills (9-1)

The Skyhawks are scheduled for four games this week, including against Spanish Fork and Springville.

2. Lehi (10-2)

The Pioneers host Pleasant Grove on Thursday for the early lead in Region 3.

3. Timpanogos (11-2)

The Timberwolves stretched their win streak to double digits at 10 in a row.

4. Payson (9-2)

The biggest test this week for the Lions will probably the non-region rivalry game against Salem Hills on Saturday.

5. Maple Mountain (10-2)

The Golden Eagles better not look past the road trip to Cedar Valley, even though a matchup with Springville is on the horizon.

BOYS SOCCER

1. American Fork (6-0)

The Cavemen will need to be at their best to stay unbeaten with games at Lehi and at home against Lone Peak.

2. Pleasant Grove (8-1)

Viking senior Ramses Alvarez leads the way with four goals in 2025.

3. Lone Peak (7-1)

How will the Knights respond to suffering their first loss?

4. Timpanogos (6-0)

On paper, the Timberwolves have been better so far than Payson and Provo — but the Lions and Bulldogs are dangerous.

5. Wasatch (6-1)

The Wasps have a plus-14 goal differential (22-8) so far this season.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

1. Maple Mountain (17-1)

Golden Eagles will be tested by Wasatch on Tuesday in Region 7 play.

2. Lehi (10-1)

Region 3 will be a beast, Pioneers open at AF then host Westlake.

3. Lone Peak (16-2)

Sophomore Brady Holt with 168 kills (3.8 per set) and hitting .333.

4. Westlake (11-5)

Thunder 3-3 during tournament play in California.

5. Orem (16-4)

Tigers get the ball to senior Ben Hone (147 kills) and good things happen.

BOYS LACROSSE

1. Skyridge (9-0)

A win over Timpview on Tuesday will mean the Falcons will start league play without a blemish.

2. Cedar Valley (6-1)

The Aviators get two more tune-up games before kicking of Region 7 action.

3. Lehi (5-1)

The Pioneers head to Springville for what might be the best contest this week.

4. Payson (7-2)

The Lions get a fun home game against Spanish Fork on Friday that will be another nice test.

5. Springville (5-2)

The Red Devils get a chance to move up when they face Lehi on Tuesday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

1. Salem Hills (8-0)

Five players with double-digit goals for Skyhawks, led by senior Brooke Warren (30).

2. Skyridge (5-2)

The next Buechner, freshman Summer, with 31 goals (4.4 per game) for Falcons.

3. Lone Peak (5-2)

Knights with 1-1 start in Region 3 after 13-8 loss to Skyridge.

4. Provo (5-2)

Anna Jaussi has scored 27 goals (3.9 per game) for Bulldogs.

5. Lehi (4-2)

Junior Kate Prettyman with 44 saves in goal for Pioneers.
