Lone Peak athletes get ready to take the field during the Region 3 game against Westlake in Highland on Thursday, April 24, 2025.Athletic success is common with most sports played at Lone Peak High School, so it’s natural one of the newer sports, boys lacrosse, is following suit.
Fresh off of a solid 15-8 win over Westlake this past Thursday, the Knights (10-3) have now won eight straight with the state championships just a mere two weeks away. Given the team’s strides made throughout the season, the possibility of winning a state championship is very much a reality in the minds of the players and Lone Peak Coach Rich Farr.
“That’s our goal and we think we have the team to contend for it this year,” Farr said following Thursday’s win. “There’s a lot of good teams out there, obviously, but that’s why we’re here. We have some guys who are injured right now, but I think we have a good shot.”
In Thursday’s win over a strong Thunder team a total of 15 shots found the back of the net due to a resurgent offensive attack that has made strong strides since the start of the season.
“Our defense has been strong, but it’s our offense that sputtered a bit at the start,” Farr said. “We lost three games early in the season to some really good teams by small margins. But what’s happened since the start of the season is our offense has really started to click, especially some of our younger players.”
Leading the offensive charge for the Knights in Thursday’s win was Seth Lambert and his three goals which was matched by David Aceves and his own hat-trick. Adding considerably to Lone Peak’s attack was Emmett Fenton, who had two of his shots find the back of the net while proving central to most every other goal scored.
“On offense we have a few guys that are as good as anyone you’ll find in the state,” Farr said. “Our duo of Seth Lambert and Emmett Fenton are as good of a combination as you’ll find anywhere.”
Ammon Hawkins also managed two goals for the Knights on Thursday.
But according to Farr, it’s Lone Peak’s defense that has led the way throughout.
“Our defense didn’t do as well tonight as we’re used to, but that’s been our strength so far,” Farr said. “We have a very physical and athletic defense, and Westlake got eight on us, which is about as much as we’ve given up this season.”
Defensive standouts for the Knights include Quinn Bean and Bridger Dunn along with Corbin Ray, who sat out the win over Westlake due to injury. The trio have helped form a stout and physical defense that opposing teams have found a considerable amount of difficulty.
“Like I said, defense is our strength and those guys are tough and as good as anyone you’ll find in the state,” Farr added.
Experience has also played a big role for the senior-laden Knights, although Farr has been pleased with the development with several of his sophomore players who will play key roles in future years.
With lacrosse still a relatively new sport to the state, Farr believes the future is bright for the game he embraced about 15 years ago when his daughter played for the only organized team in all of Utah County.
“I wish more people would just come out and watch it because it’s a fun, fast and very physical and exciting game,” Farr said. “So people just need to come out and get used to it. We bring people in for just a season and then they’re hooked because it’s a lot of fun.”
Indeed Lone Peak’s success this year has warranted more and more attention with every week with Farr and his team hoping to be the last team standing when all the weeks come to a close about a month from now.
