Top girls wrestlers set to compete at state finals

The boys tournaments are concluded, and now for the 3A through 6A female wrestlers, it’s go time.
The UCCU Event Center on the campus of Utah Valley will again host these state tournaments, and they will run Friday and Saturday with the championship finals set for Saturday at 4:45 p.m.
Wasatch and several Utah County teams and wrestlers will have a huge presence at this year’s tournament.
6A Notes
The 6A tournament is about as wide open as it gets. Copper Hills is the defending champion but likely won’t contend this year. Mountain Ridge is considered the favorite as the Sentinels qualified 23 wrestlers to the state meet but Westlake has some good star power. Other contenders include Corner Canyon, Davis, Herriman and Syracuse.
Westlake’s Keilikki Rarick (235 pounds) looks to earn her fourth state title while her freshman sister Tevia (190) holds an unblemished 34-0 record. Skyridge’s Madison Sherman (145) is also a returning state champion.

5A Notes
Wasatch looks good to repeat in 5A as they have dominated the competition all year long including a decisive victory at the Divisional A tournament. The Wasps don’t have any defending champions but Pallas Anderson (115) and Marabelle Brown (120) were runners-up in 2024. The Wasps qualified 20 total wrestlers.
The likely challenger to Wasp supremacy will come from Cedar Valley. The Aviators took third last year and second in 2023 and qualified 17 wrestlers. Ryha Balmforth is a returning silver medalist for the Aviators.
Salem Hills should put forth a strong effort to win a trophy. Kelseigh Banks (130) is a returning state champion. Banks could meet Maple Mountain’s Elle Jensen, a returning state champion herself.

Utah County won’t have any team challengers but still have some contenders at the individual level with Orem’s Sophia Johnson (130) and Provo’s Ella Reynolds (130). The two are returning runner-ups but are on the same side of the bracket and could meet in the semifinals. The 3-time defending champions Mountain Crest qualified 25 wrestlers while Uintah comes in with 22. In 4A and 5A, each team can score two wrestlers per weight. Bear River with 20 wrestlers and Tooele with the same number are also team contenders.
