Prep baseball roundup: PG’s Nordick fans 14 in Super Regional victory

No. 15 Copper Hills came out hot at the plate and put up three runs in the first inning against No. 2 Pleasant Grove in Wednesday’s Game 1 Super Regional contest.
The Vikings’ Keaton Nordick recovered nicely.
Nordick struck out 14 batters and RJ Wilson drove in three runs with a double as Pleasant Grove (22-4) recovered for a 7-3 victory. Game 2 was scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
Class 6A
No. 12 Lone Peak 3, No. 5 Riverton 2
Grady Slesk struck out nine and scattered eight hits as No. 12 Lone Peak (12-14) upset No. 5 Riverton (17-9) in the opening game of their best-of-3 Super Regional.
The Knights put up three runs in the fifth and Boston Walkenhorst helped Slesk come out a winner by getting the final out.
No. 8 Skyridge 10, No. 9 Bingham 9
Skyridge (15-10) rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, erasing a four-run deficit and earning a victory in Game 1 of a Super Regional contest. Miles Robinson drove in three runs with a double for the Falcons and teammates Rip Roberts, Max Johnanson and Boston Sundberg contributed two hits apiece.
Class 5A
No. 1 Maple Mountain 11, No. 16 Skyline 1
Cy Chrisman bashed two homers and drove in seven runs as top seed Maple Mountain (25-1) crushed No. 16 Skyline in Game 1 of their Super Regional.
Chrisman became the state’s all-time season home run leader with 17, breaking the record of 15 set by Pleasant Grove’s Damian Sapp twice (1993, 1994).
No. 5 Cyprus 10, No. 12 Wasatch 4
Rene Hidalgo and Brody Densley drove in three runs apiece as No. 5 Cyprus (20-6) earned a victory against No. 12 Wasatch in Game 1 of their Super Regional.
Kolden Hafen was 3 for 4 with a double for Wasatch. Austin Brown, Bridger Shaw and Blake Sweat had two hits each for the Wasps.
No. 20 Spanish Fork 11, No. 4 Alta 1
Kayden Lambson allowed just four hits and struck our four as No. 20 Spanish Fork (12-16) run-ruled No. 4 Alta (19-7) in Game 1 of their Super Regional, one of the day’s biggest upsets.
The Dons exploded for all 11 runs in the first inning. Freshman Trigg Cloward drove in three runs and Nixon Warren and Boston Duvall added a pair of RBI each.
No. 19 Salem Hills 2, No. 3 West Jordan 1
Dom Jex pitched a complete game, scattering three hits and striking out four, as No. 19 Salem Hills (13-15) pulled off the other shocker of the Super Regional, edging No. 3 West Jordan (21-5) in Game 1. The bottom of the Skyhawks order accounted for all six of the team’s hits: Mason Ward (1), Bracket Lindley (1), Guss Johnson (2) and Trey Mitchell (2). Braxton Harrison drove in both runs for Salem Hills.
Class 4A
No. 4 Timpanogos 9, No. 1 Desert Hills 8
No. 8 Crimson Cliffs 6, No. 4 Timpanogos 5
The Timberwolves (22-9) experienced the ecstasy and the agony in the 4A tournament in St. George, eliminating No. 1 Desert Hills with a run in the seventh inning but dropping an elimination game to Crimson Cliffs in a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh a few hours later.
Jace Hunter homered and Jackson Sotelo drove in four runs in the first game as Timpanogos stayed alive in bracket play. In the evening game against Crimson Cliffs, the T-Wolves scored three in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 5 only to see the Mustangs get an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to get the win.
Crimson Cliffs (21-8) will play No. 2 Snow Canyon (23-6) in a best-of-3 series Friday and Saturday for the 4A championship.
