Prep Football Playoff Roundup: No. 3 Springville hammers No. 19 Spanish Fork

Springville’s Zach Henderson returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown and Tua Naufahu was responsible for three scores (two on the ground, one through the air) as the No. 3 Red Devils moved on in the 5A state playoffs, taking care of No. 19 Spanish Fork 49-14 on Friday.
Spanish Fork (4-8) countered Henderson’s kick return with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Nixon Warren to Gage Christensen, but Naufahu scored on a 17-yard pass from Lisiate Valeti for a 14-7 Springville lead. Valeti found paydirt with a 1-yard touchdown run to put the Red Devils up 21-7 late in the first quarter.
Warren’s 75-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Grant trimmed the Springville lead to 21-14 but it was all Red Devils after that with two Naufahu scoring runs and touchdowns from Tuiona Valeti and Max Harris completing the scoring.
Springville (10-1) will host No. 6 Box Elder in Friday’s quarterfinal round. The Bees handled No. 11 West Field 35-13 in the second round.
6A Second Round
No. 2 Skyridge 63, No. 15 Copper Hills 3
Suka Finau opened the scoring for the Falcons with a 34-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the first quarter and the points kept coming. Quarterback Kaneal Sweetwyne threw touchdown passes to Brandon Warren (35 yards) and Talmage Oswald (14 yards) and scored on a 23-yard run for Skyridge (8-2), which led 42-3 at halftime.
The Falcons host Region 3 foe American Fork in the quarterfinals. The Falcons won the first meeting between the two teams 26-14 on Oct. 15.
No. 8 Syracuse 31, No. 9 Westlake 28
Skyler Orton kicked a 36-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Titans over the Thunder.
Bosten Fountaine and Malik Sika connected on touchdown passes of 4, 8 and 17 yards as Westlake took a 28-21 lead at halftime. But the Thunder failed to score in the second half.
Westlake finishes the season with a 7-4 record. Syracuse (7-3) moves on to the 6A quarterfinals against top seed Corner Canyon.
No. 6 Lone Peak 41, No. 11 Farmington 14
Quarterback Kepa Niumeitolu’s return from injury sparked the Knights to a big second round victory.
Niumeitolu, who last played against this same Farmington team on Sept. 12, threw three touchdown passes and also caught a pass for a score. Tevita Mounga added a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown as Lone Peak (6-4) moves on to a quarterfinal road game at No. 2 Davis.
4A Second Round
No. 2 Crimson Cliffs 48, No. 15 Timpanogos 27
The Mustangs (9-1), who are vying for their third straight 4A state title, got three touchdowns from Van Daley and moved on to the quarterfinals. Andrew Hillstead threw a pair of touchdown passes to Iveni Mounga for the Timberwolves, who completed their season with a 5-6 record.
2A Quarterfinals
No. 3 South Summit 55, No. 6 ALA 20
The Wildcats (7-4) scored five rushing touchdowns, including two from Brody Larsen, in a decisive victory. The Eagles hit a couple of big plays, including a 77-yard touchdown run by Wesley Haston and a 50-yard scoring pass from Mason Ober to Andrew Marble, and finished the season with a 4-7 record.
8-Player Quarterfinals
No. 2 Milford 57, No. 7 UMA-Camp Williams 0
Boston Sullivan scored three touchdowns — a 48-yard interception return, a 55-yard reception and a 46-yard run — as the Tigers (8-2) shut out the Marauders in the 2A quarterfinals. UMA-Camp Williams ends the season with a 5-5 record.
