Prep Football Playoffs: No. 6 Lone Peak shocks No. 2 Davis in double overtime

Lone Peak players take the field before the Region 3 game at American Fork on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025.Kepa Niumeitolu accounted for three touchdowns and Jake Baker kicked a 38-yard field goal to lift No. 6 Lone Peak past No. 2 Davis 41-38 in double overtime at Kaysville on Friday in the 6A quarterfinals.
Niumeitolu threw a pair of scoring passes and contributed the tying touchdown in regulation on a 2-yard run with 30 seconds remaining.
Baker had a shot at a game-winning field goal after a Knights interception but the kick fell short, sending the contest to overtime tied at 31.
The two teams matched touchdowns in the first overtime with Tate Barney racing 15 yards for a Lone Peak score and Tradon Bessinger tossing a 2-yard strike to Tyson Baggett for the Darts to forge another tie at 38-all.
In the second overtime, Lone Peak freshman Kingston Stroshine made two huge defensive plays, stopping Davis short of the goal line on third and fourth down.
On the Knights possession, Baker redeemed himself and hit the game winner.
Lone Peak (7-4) will take on Region 3 foe and No. 2 seed Skyridge (9-2) in one of Thursday’s semifinals at Rice-Eccles Stadium. The first meeting between the two teams was a classic, with the Falcons earning a 37-34 double overtime win.
Class 4A
No. 5 Provo 28, No. 4 Hurricane 13
Gehrig Orchard threw two touchdown passes –giving him 29 this season — and ran for another score as the Bulldogs earned a quarterfinal road win in Hurricane.
Ronnie Wright scored twice for Provo, which scored 21 points in the second quarter to take control of the game.
The Bulldogs (8-4), who have won seven games in a row. will take on top-seed and undefeated Ridgeline (12-0) in one of the 4A semifinals on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Rice-Eccles Stadium.
