Outlook: Deer Creek High School will open its doors for the first this summer and and takes on the challenge of building a football program from scratch. Perkins and the RiverHawks will compete in Region 8 in Class 4A for Year 1.

“We’re looking to create a new culture and new standard for football in the Heber Valley,” Perkins said.

Nord has been drawing attention this summer and is the RiverHawks most visible recruit.

Region 8 will have eight teams this season with the addition of Deer Creek and Wasatch sliding down from 5A Region 7. The other teams include Mountain View, Park City, Provo, Salem Hills, Timpanogos and Uintah.

The RiverHawks open with a home game against Mountain Crest in Aug. 14 and face rival Wasatch at home on Sept. 4.

What is your favorite team-building activity? “Our team summer camp, where the kids bonded as a team,” Perkins said. “They learned how to deal with adversity for the first time as a program.”
