Orem football coach Lance Reynolds Jr. (white hat) has a discussion with officials before the start of a 5A state quarterfinal game against Woods Cross on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025.Winning high school state championships isn’t easy.
Neither, it seems, is coaching those teams.
The Orem Tigers football program finished 12-2 in 2025 and won the 5A state title, but the school is now looking for a new head coach.
Lance Reynolds Jr. has resigned from his post, according to the Orem High School website.
“After 10 years on the Orem High football staff (last three as head coach) Coach Lance Reynolds has resigned as Head coach,” the release stated.
“I want to express my sincere appreciation to all of you and many that came before you, for making my experience so rewarding here,” Reynolds is quoted. “I absolutely love Orem and have loved what we’ve all built over the past decade. After a lot of thought, I feel the time for me to step down is now.”
Reynolds, a former Timpview and BYU offensive lineman, served as the offensive coordinator at Orem for seven years before taking over the program in 2022. Reynolds coached during five state titles for the Tigers, including three with current Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua.
In 2025, Orem started 1-2 with losses to 6A Lone Peak and Rocky Mountain (Idaho), then reeled off 11 straight wins to claim the 5A state title in a 42-7 victory against Springville at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City.
Reynolds is the son of long-time BYU coach Lance Reynolds Sr.
Among the players the Tigers are sending to the next level are defensive end and Daily Herald Player of the Year Lopeti “Juni” Moala (BYU), defensive back Aisa Galea’i (Utah), quarterback Tayden Ka’awa (Alabama), defensive back Kaue Akana (BYU) and tight end Kai Wesley (Baylor).
Current athletes on the BYU roster who played for Reynolds include redshirt freshman offensive lineman Jeff Lewis and tight end Roger Saleapaga, who transferred from the University of Oregon.
“We greatly appreciate Coach Reynolds, his wife Becky and the Reynolds family for their devotion and love to for the boys and program and wish him and them nothing but the best in the future,” the release concluded.
The job opening is listed on the UHSAA website. The job description reads, “Orem High School is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and student-centered Head Football Coach to lead and develop our football program. The Head Coach will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the program, including player development, staff supervision, program administration, recruitment (if applicable), and fostering a culture of integrity, discipline, and academic excellence.”
