Daily Herald writers Darnell Dickson, Brandon Gurney and Brian E. Preece rank the top five Utah Valley teams in boys basketball, girls basketball, boys wrestling and girls wrestling for the week of Jan. 26.

BOYS BASKETBALL 

1. Timpview 16-1

Timpview is proving it has much more than star Dean Rueckert in recent games

2. Westlake 17-1

Westlake took its first loss of the season, although it was a narrow 67-66 defeat at the hands of Herriman

3. American Fork 11-7

Jax Clark led the way in the Cavemen’s 57-49 win over Skyridge, much as he has all season

4. Provo 17-3

The Bulldogs haven’t dropped a game since before Thanksgiving, which certainly necessitates a spot in the top 5

5. Springville 11-5

The Red Devils were tested tested versus Pleasant Grove, but still managed a 61-53 overtime win

GIRLS BASKETBALL

1. Pleasant Grove 17-0

Huge wins at Wasatch and vs. Springville keep Vikings undefeated.

2. Westlake 16-2

Thunder rolling with 12 straight victories.

3. Wasatch 12-4

Wasps at Springville on Tuesday will be a big one in Region 7.

4. Maple Mountain 12-6

Leah Bailey averaging 20.6 points per game for Golden Eagles.

5. Mountain View 13-5

Carlson (21 points), Bramble (18) and Hair (16) push Bruins past T-Wolves in OT.

BOYS WRESTLING

1. Spanish Fork

Dons win Battle for the Buckle tourney they hosted going 9-0 in their dual meets.

2. Westlake

While Layton is the favorite to repeat in 6A, an intriguing battle for second place has the Thunder in the mix.

3. Wasatch

With a new scoring system in 5A, the Wasps with their star power are legit contenders.

4. Timpanogos

Uintah is the prohibitive favorite in 4A but the Timberwolves have the inside track to the silver trophy.

5. Mountain View

The Bruins wrapped up their dual meet season with a victory over Salem Hills.

GIRLS WRESTLING

1. Salem Hills

The Skyhawks have the experience and the star power to win 5A.

2. Wasatch

Wasps can’t be counted out in 5A as they seek their third straight title.

3. Westlake

6A looks wide open and the Thunder are in the mix.

4. Cedar Valley

Like their rival Westlake, the Aviators are a trophy contender in 6A.

5. Springville

Red Devils looking to end the year with a top five finish in 5A.
