Here are the top boys basketball players in the Utah Valley area in 2025-26:
Player of the Year: Dean Rueckert, 6-7 Sr. F, Timpview
Rueckert is a Top 100 recruit according to 24-7 Sports (No. 77 most recently) and has excelled against some of the best talent in the country on the AAU circuit. The BYU commit averaged 20.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Rueckert led the T-Birds to a 9-0 mark in Region 7 and a 21-3 record overall.
Offensive MVP: Makai Allen, 6-2 Sr. G, Provo
No defender wanted to see Allen bearing down on them with the ball in his hands. The ultra-quick guard averaged 21.9 points per game and made 33 3-pointers. He also logged 3.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game in leading the Bulldogs (23-4 overall, 7-1 Region 8) to a 4A state title. Allen will be taking his talents to Ephraim to play for Andrew May and Snow College.
Defensive MVP: Graydin Anderson, 6-1 Sr. G, Westlake
The Thunder dominated in Class 6A with a balance attack but Anderson, a three-year starter, made contributions all over the floor. He averaged a team-leading 13.8 points per game and made 41 3-point shots. He also contributed 3.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game as Westlake (24-3 overall, 9-3 Region 2) won the school’s first-ever basketball state title.
Coach of the Year: Nate Carling, Westlake
Carling drove the Thunder to 16 straight wins to open the season. Westlake lost its final two Region 2 games but was dominant in the 6A tournament, winning four games by an average of 17.3 points per game.
First Team All-Valley
Jaxon Brown, 6-6 Sr. F, Pleasant Grove
Brown was a leader for the Vikings, averaging 11.4 points and making 39 3-pointers in a season where they made a run to the 5A semifinals.
Jax Clark, 6-8 Sr. F, American Fork
Clark was a dominant big man, averaged 16.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game while shooting XX percent from the field.
Cooper Crockett, 6-8 Sr. C, American Leadership Academy
Crockett was the big man in the midde for the Eagles, averaged 16.8 points and 12.6 rebounds per game while making 39 3-pointers.
Mason Hansen, 6-1 Sr. G, Springville
Hansen had a fantastic senior season, averaging 19.2 points per game while making 68 3-pointers.
James Matsen, 6-5 Sr. G, American Heritage
Matsen was one of the state’s top scorers, finishing with an average of 22.4 points per game while making 53 3-pointers.
Jaxen McCuistion, 6-4 Sr. G, Timpanogos
McCuistion was a matchup nightmare, averaging 23.5 points per game while making 72 3-pointers.
Bryce Mella, 6-5 Sr. G, American Fork
The Utah State-bound Mella was terrific for the Cavemen, averaging 16.9 points per game and making 24 3-pointers.
Carson Mosteller 6-4 Sr. G, Skyridge
Mosteller was one of the best 3-point shooters in the state, making 70 triples while averaging 14.7 points per game.
Will Openshaw, 6-10 Sr. F, Timpview
Openshaw, a BYU commit, averaged 13.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while making 19 3-point shots.
JJ Serre 6-7 Sr. F, Wasatch
Serre did a lot of damage for the Wasps, averaging 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game while knocking down 42 3-pointers.
Ashton Shewell, 6-4 Jr. G, Lehi
Shewell was a dynamic scorer for the Pioneers, finishing with 21.4 points per game while netting 40 3-pointers.
Malik Sika, 6-3 Jr. G, Westlake
The smooth, athletic Sika was key to Westlake’s run to the 6A title, averaging 12.9 points per game and making 52 3-pointers.
Jamyn Sondrup, 6-10 Sr. C, Springville
Sondrup, who recently committed to Purdue, was a handful inside while averaging 18.5 point and 12.4 rebounds per game.
Simeon Suguturaga, 6-7 Sr. F, Orem
Suguturaga was one of the Valley’s top scoring threats while averaging 17.6 points.
Brody Thompson, 6-4 Sr. F, Westlake
Thompson was one of many weapons for the 6A champs, averaging 12.7 points per game while hitting 31 3-pointers.
Callen Tollestrup, 6-8 Sr. F, Provo
Tollestrup made big shots all year long for the 4A champs, averaging 20.5 points while making 43 3-pointers.
Saxon Young, 5-11 Jr. G, Lone Peak
Young was one of the most creative players in the state, finishing with 16.1 points per game and 68 3-pointers.
