Valley Top 5: All will be revealed at state volleyball tournaments this week

Daily Herald writers Darnell Dickson and Brandon Gurney rank the top five Utah Valley teams in baseball, boys soccer, softball, boys volleyball, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse for the week of May 4.

BASEBALL

1. Pleasant Grove 17-7

Vikings No. 1 due to two-game sweep of Spanish Fork last month.

2. Spanish Fork 21-3

Dons have won six games in a row, No. 1 in Class 5A RPI.

3. Lehi 12-9

Pioneers shocked 6A with three-game sweep of Lone Peak last week.

4. Timpanogos 21-4

T-Wolves host 4A Super Regional vs. Pine View on Thursday.

5.-tie American Fork 14-8

Cavemen No. 2 in 6A RPI, has won six of past seven games.

5.-tie Lone Peak 16-6

Knights No. 2 in 6A RPI, plays two of three at Jordan this week.

BOYS SOCCER 

1. Lone Peak 14-1

Knights closed out the regular season with another hard-fought win over rival Skyridge.

2. Pleasant Grove 16-0

Vikings finished off a perfect regular season and a Region 7 title with a win over Spanish Fork.

3. Skyridge 10-6

No one has played the top-ranked Knights tougher than the Falcons this season.

4. Timpanogos 13-3

Led by Lewis Peterson’s 15 goals on the season, the Timberwolves are rolling.

5. Westlake 11-5

Thunder finished off a solid regular season with a win over Mountain Ridge.

SOFTBALL 

1. Salem Hills 24-1

Led by pitcher Jo Norman, the Skyhawks are big favorites to win a 5A state championship.

2. Lehi 22-3

Pioneer’s thrilling 8-7 win over Herriman may be a preview of the 6A state championship.

3. Spanish Fork 18-7

Dons are young and improving with every week, hoping to reprise their dominating form.

4. Maple Mountain 19-7

Golden Eagles will finish out the regular season with a big game versus top-ranked Salem Hills.

5. Orem 17-11

Flush with juniors, the Tigers finished out the regular season on a high note.

1. Wasatch 22-1

Wasps the favorites heading into 5A Tournament at UVU.

2. Lehi 22-2

Pioneers No. 1 seed in 6A tourney, begins with No. 17 Westlake.

3. Lone Peak 21-6

No 3 in 6A RPI, could we see a Lone Peak-Lehi final?

4. Maple Mountain 21-4

No. 3 seed in 5A tourney, second round meeting with No. 14 Clearfield.

5. Mountain View 21-5

Bruins No. 1 seed in 4A tourney, opens with No. 17 Crimson Cliffs.

BOYS LACROSSE

1. Skyridge 14-2

Lost to No. 1 RPI Corner Canyon 10-7, edged Lone Peak 11-10 last week.

2. Wasatch 13-2

Wasps knocked off Timpview (11-9) and PG (10-7) to surge to No. 2.

3. Timpview 15-2

T-Birds’ 12-game winning streak ended by Wasatch.

4. Pleasant Grove 12-4

Vikings can make up some ground with a good performance against Timpview.

5. Payson 9-7

Lions jockeying for good state seeding with big match this week vs. Spanish Fork.

GIRLS LACROSSE 

1. Skyridge 15-1

Falcons are in top form after beating rival Lone Peak 19-7.

2. Provo 15-1

Anna Jaussi is proving to be one of the top goal-scorers in the entire state.

3. Lone Peak 11-5

Knights couldn’t get over the hump versus dominant Skyridge, but have otherwise taken care of business.

4. Salem Hills 11-4

Skyhawks vault into the rankings following a big 8-7 win over Payson.

5. Timpanogos 9-5

Timberwolves have been paced by Jada Intharath and her team-leading 50 goals.
