The Men’s Utah State Amateur Golf Tournament has played uninterrupted for 128 straight years.

After a few withdrawals, 282 golfers teed it up at Soldier Hollow with the dream of hoisting the trophy at the 128th Men’s State Amateur, the longest continuous golf tournament in the world.

Soldier Hollow has two 18-hole layouts simply called the gold and silver. The gold track is considered a bit more challenging. For those golfers playing the gold today, they will play the silver tomorrow and vice versa. After 36 holes, the field will be trimmed down to the top 64 players for match play with 36-hole showdown between the top two players. Bowen Mauss, who plays at Arizona State, is back to defend his title and was 1-under after a 71 on the gold course.

Angus Klintworth, who played the silver course carded a 6-under 66 to lead the way at the Daily Herald press deadline. Klintworth plays out of Red Ledges.

Madden Barnes and Ben Wilson, representing Youth on Course, were next at 67. Wilson did play the gold course.

Past champion Dan Horner (Bonneville) is in good shape after carding a 3-under 69 on the more difficult gold layout.
