Outfielder Brody Block and the UVU baseball team begin a three-game series at the University of San Francisco on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.Utah Valley baseball closes out the 2025 regular season this week with a three-game series in the Bay Area against the University of San Francisco. The series will begin on Wednesday, May 14 at 3:00 p.m. MT, and two more-day games will conclude the series. All three games are slated for mid-afternoon starts due to USF not having lights on Benedetti Diamond. The entire series will air on ESPN+ with live stats on UVUstats.com.
The Wolverines are coming off their final home weekend, where they defeated the WAC leader by the run-rule to start the weekend with an impressive 14-2 victory before Sacramento State came back to win the final two games. Brody Block finished the weekend 5-for-10, recording a career-high four hits in the series-opening win. Dominic Longo II finished with a .500 weekend at the plate. They finished with a .323 batting average and saw four home runs hit, including two from senior Landon Frei.
Corbin Kirk had a nice outing to open the series, going six innings with three strikeouts, while the Hornets scattered seven hits; he got the needed outs to limit them to just two runs. Jacob Heppner tossed 5 1/3 innings in the series finale that started as a pitcher’s duel before Sacramento State opened the game up. Garrett Miller, Cooper Littledike, and George Albrecht all came in and did not allow runs.
San Francisco enters the final week of the regular season with a 23-29 record and 9-15 in the WCC. They finished the weekend with a series victory over Portland. Patrick Keighran was named Rawlings West Coast Conference Player of the Week after hitting .538 (7-for-13) with one home run and five RBIs. He’s the leading hitter for USF this season and has tallied 11 home runs with 47 RBIs. The other hitter over .300 is TJ Rogers, who is at .310 this season.
On the mound, the Dons have a 6.21 ERA and have been led by Aidan Risse in the starting rotation, who has tallied 52 strikeouts in 64 2/3 innings pitched. His 4-2 record and 4.87 ERA stand out amongst his teammates. In the late-game situations, Quentin Pohorski has been the go-to guy, earning five saves this season. USF has struggled with command at times, having walked 223 hitters and hitting 111.
The Wolverines have had three impressive reached-base streaks during the 2025 season. Frei originally broke the program record when he reached for the 40th time this season against BYU in April. His streak ended against Utah before Luke Iverson reached for the 41st consecutive game later in the week. He extended his streak to 48 games before he was snapped this past weekend. Jimmy De Anda has now reached 41 games and will look to get within four of Iverson this weekend.
THREE NAMED TO D1 BASEBALL’S TOP PLAYERS LIST
Catcher Mason Strong, who came in at No. 42 earlier in the season, has moved up seven spots to No. 35. Joining him on the list now is Landon Frei, who came in at No. 48 out of 50 second basemen, and Luke Iverson, who came in at No. 122 out of 150 outfielders.
The Wolverines clinched a spot in the University Credit Union WAC Baseball Tournament next week at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa. The tournament begins on Tuesday, May 20, but UVU will have to wait to see how the final weekend of WAC play finishes to see where they fall in the bracket. The entire tournament will air on ESPN+.
