UVU Roundup: Nokes, Hartshorn, Bingham shine for indoor track

By UVU Sports Information - | Feb 1, 2026

LOGAN, Utah and BOSTON — Morgan Nokes set the WAC record in the 5k and Alex Hartshorn and Jennaveve Bingham set school records in the mile and 600-meter to headline the Wolverines’ efforts this weekend.

Nokes was the second collegian over the line in the 5k at the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston on Friday, posting a record time of 15:46.11 that surpassed 2020 Olympic Silver Medalist and former Kansas City runner Courtney Frerich’s time of 15:47.56, set back in 2015.

Hartshorn headlined the efforts from the rest of the Wolverine contingent in Logan, breaking his own school record set just three weeks ago in the mile with a converted time of 3:56.79 that moves him into the top 25 nationally in that event.

Hartshorn is a hair over a second away from breaking the WAC record, a time of 3:55.70 set by UTEP’s Wilson Waigwa in 1977 that is the second-oldest men’s record in the league.

Bingham took first in the 600m dash with a time of 1:31.80, toppling a record held by former Wolverine Alexandra Jo since 2002.

In addition to the three record-breaking performances, Utah Valley’s athletes posted 13 top-10 marks.  Grace Williams  set a new indoor PR of 3.79m in the pole vault, strengthening her position at No. 2 all-time, while  Emily Conlin  maintained her spot in seventh with a new PR of 3.64m.

Four Wolverines place at Edinboro Open

EDINBORO, Pa. — Four Utah Valley University wrestlers competed and placed at Saturday’s Edinboro Open with Jake Castagneto and Jack Forbes both taking second place. Ian Fritz  was third while competing unattached at 157 and Christian Smoot  took fifth at 184 pounds.
