There is a kind of magic in the room as Jenn Blosil’s low, sweet voice glides over her powerful songs. Her music is calming, stirring in the air.  Jenn Blosil’s  concert at the Velour in Provo on June 21 with Mia Grace and Faith Johnson was amazing.

The Velour is a little concert hall settled on a big street in Provo. Dangling lights hang from the windows, which are plastered with posters. An awning hangs overhead as the people walk in.

The place isn’t like anything you’ve ever seen. It’s dimly lit with old, red wallpaper. There’s fake stained glass, a picture of Elvis, and a disco ball. It’s a cool kind of vintage style.

We open the concert with Mia Grace, who has just graduated from high school. She has a contagious smile, and a sweet, sweet, folk sounding voice.

Her first song, “Don’t Think Twice” by Bob Dylan, on the guitar, is a beautiful display of her talents. She goes through several other songs that are just perfect.

Faith Johnson, a talented 13-year-old, is next. She has written all her songs, and plays them ferociously on the grand piano. It is a unique, dramatic performance.

Her songs really express who she is as a teenager.

Finally, Jenn Blosil comes to the stage. The audience is quiet and full of wonder from the first two performances, but Blosil warms right up to the crowd.

She goes through her first song, and then, laughing, talks about herself and her songs.

She is talkative, friendly, and ultimately, can make everyone in the room laugh and feel comfortable. Her songs are amazing and really show a window to her soul. Her voice is low and full of soul, warm and magical. One of her first songs, “Room for Two,” really gets to the audience and is a fun and happy song. A later song, “Beautiful” is inspiring. It talks about what being beautiful really is. It is a personal song to her, and she talks about learning to love her huge, frizzy, curly hair.

Jenn Blosil took piano lessons when she was younger and like most kids, she hated practicing. As a teenager, she discovered piano was one thing she was really good at. She found out she loved singing. She has kept at it throughout her life and has developed a strong, happy personality, and lots of beautiful music.

As the concert ends, and the audience walks out under the stars, they can still feel the “magic” of the music.

Starting at $4.32/week.
