Student of the Week: Olivia Styler

By Alpine School District - | Feb 24, 2016

Olivia Styler is a fourth-grader at Traverse Mountain Elementary School. She was chosen as the Daily Herald’s Utah Valley Student of the Week.

Olivia is new to Traverse Mountain Elementary this year, yet has made friends and settled in quite nicely. She has lived in Provo and Walnut Creek, California, and currently lives in Lehi.

As a member of our fourth-grade class, she is liked by all of the students and has demonstrated the leadership skills of being responsible, courteous, honest, accountable, friendly and loving. She is often seen working extra hard on additional math challenges as well as rising to the task of working on a Genius Hour Project. When it is time to write, she dives right in and develops her writing with great detail.

Last year, she broke her school record for reading the most books in the whole school. She has already surpassed our class 40-book challenge for the year by reading more than 100 books by Jan. 1.

Olivia enjoys reading, using her imagination when playing with Calico Critters and building with Legos, playing with her brother and creating things. She played the song flute in third grade, and looks forward to learning the piano soon.

One change that she would love to see in the elementary school would be the chance for more physical activities to take place outside for the students.

Her love of learning as well as her motivation to do her best in everything will help her be a successful leader in the future. She wants to be a marine biologist, or go work in an aquarium and take care of the touch pools. When asked where she wants to go to college, she said that she is unsure, but is considering Brigham Young University.

“As a teacher, it is a joy to see someone who is excited to learn and be challenged,” said Diane Lewis, Olivia’s teacher. “I am honored to be Olivia’s teacher this year and think that our class has greatly been impacted because of her leadership and example.”
