Utah Valley Student of the Week: Kenzie Ford

By Alpine School District - | Jan 27, 2016

Kenzie Ford, 17, is a student at Westlake High School. She was chosen as the Daily Herald’s Utah Valley Student of the Week.

Ford medaled in individual events in both swimming (50 free) and track & field (javelin) last year at the high school state 5A meets. She is also the two-time Region IV champion in the 50 free. She is the captain of the Westlake Girls Swim Team.

When asked what her hobbies are, Ford said, “I like to swim, throw spears, hurdle things and watch superhero movies.”

She has been a member of the Westlake High School Math Club throughout high school. She also enjoys science. In 2014, Ford took first place in the Central Utah Science and Engineering Fair in her category. She enjoys volunteering at the elementary school science fair.

Ford delights in sharing her love of water with others. She has spent more than 100 hours teaching free water safety classes to boys and girls ages 8-12. She regularly works with Boy Scouts on their first and second class requirements. She helps cub dens with belt loops, pins and swimming requirements. She has also volunteered with special needs children and trained other youth volunteers.

School isn’t easy for Ford, but she does well in school because she is such a hard worker. She is kind and brings out the best in others. She is a fun person to be around and loves to make people laugh and smile.

Ford is still deciding where she wants to go to college next year. She is planning to study either physical therapy or computer science.

Starting at $4.32/week.
