Apr 13, 2023

Bonnie Jean Sims Southwick, our loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend was reunited with her beloved sweetheart and family on April 8, 2023, surrounded by her family in Lehi, Utah at the age of 90.

She was born on June 25, 1932, in American Fork Utah to Thomas William Sims and Ada Wright Sims Naef. She married Neven Ray Southwick, April 26, 1950, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Bonnie grew up in Westwood, CA until the age of 13 when her family moved back to American Fork. She graduated from American Fork High School and cherished the many lasting friendships she made. Bonnie played the drums in the marching band and remained a lifetime fan of AFHS marching band.

Ray was called into active duty with the Marine Corps two months after they were married. He was sent overseas to serve a one-year deployment on the front lines in the Korean War. While he was gone, Bonnie moved with her family to Susanville CA. She was a faithful military wife and supported Ray by writing to him every day. After the war, Ray and Bonnie settled down and made their home in Lehi.

Bonnie worked several jobs. She was a store clerk, secretary, bookkeeper, and receptionist. She was very friendly and loved talking with people and making friends. Her favorite job was being a wife, mother, and grandmother.

Ray and Bonnie enjoyed retirement. They loved going on vacations and spending their winters in St. George. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent many hours serving in the temple and organizations of the church. She especially loved serving as a missionary with her husband in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.

Bonnie is survived by three children, one brother and one sister: Grady (Patty) Southwick, Sheree (Jeff) Peterson, and Laurie Norman, brother Norman Sims and sister Diana Lloyd. She has eleven grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son-in-law Steven Norman, and sister Carol Plaster.

A graveside service for friends and family will be held at the Lehi City Cemetery, April 15, 2023, at 12:00 noon. Interment in the Lehi City Cemetery under the direction of Wing Mortuary. We would like to thank the staff at Covington Senior Living and Aspen Ridge Hospice for their excellent care, kindness, and love.
