A call came to dispatch at 8:50 a.m. that flames and smoke were coming from a home at 935 S. 450 East. First responders called for more assistance, according to Shaun Hirst, assistant fire chief.

“There was a full city response,” Hirst said. “There was significant damage to the home, a car and an RV.”

One resident suffered minor burns on his hands. He was treated at the scene, according to Hirst. One family pet, a cat, died in the fire.

According to Hirst, the fire was mostly contained to the first floor of the home and in the back of the home. Smoke could still be seen from the fire as late as 10:45 a.m.

The full report is not complete but Hirst believes the fire was started due to electrical issues.

Hirst noted that a full contingent from the city is called out when initial responders need help and depending on the type of structure that is on fire.

More information on the fire will be released following an investigation.
