Dillon James Wright, 31, allegedly committed a domestic violence assault in public and was armed, prompting officers to respond to the scene near 2230 N. University Parkway at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Provo police said two officers discharged their weapons and struck Wright. Officers performed medical aid on scene and Wright was transported to the hospital but did not survive, authorities said.

The Utah County Officer-Involved Critical Incident team is handling the  investigation into the incident.

According to Utah court documents, Wright did not have any documented prior arrests or convictions within the state.

The incident occurred less than a month after an Aug. 30 fatal officer-involved shooting in Nephi when police responded to a domestic violence incident, according to Nephi police.

In 2025, there were fatal officer-involved shootings in Orem and Springville. The Utah County Attorney’s Office earlier this month said two Springville officers were legally justified in the April 5, 2025, shooting.
