Angela Ramirez, a Lehi mother to two elementary-aged children, hatched upon the idea for her business by paying attention to her own frustrations.

“I was a major Groupon fan, and every morning I’d check my Facebook and Groupon. But I’d be scrolling through Groupon for 10 minutes or more and not finding what I want. I mean, I don’t want to buy toothpaste online,” Ramirez said.

So, with the help of husband’s investment firm, Zerimar Ventures, she has financed snach.it. This app is a curated shopping app that offers targeted products at a discount to users for a very limited time — like 30 seconds of time.

“You really only need 30 seconds to get a good impression of something, and the products you’ll see will be targeted to the brands you want or the type of item you need,” Ramirez said.

Ramirez has access to that merchandise through the relationships she’s made recently with vendors and merchandisers and when she managed merchandising for Overstock.com. Even as the app’s reach and product offering grows, as Ramirez expects, she will still be involved with curating the offerings to users, so that she can avoid the “junk” prevalent on too many shopping sites.

“Whatever growth that happens, I don’t want it to affect consumer experience,” she said.

Initially, the snach.it app will only be available in beta form for those that have been invited or have gained access through shares from their friends. The app is currently being tested with friends and family, and Angela expects to go into beta within the next two months. Those that sign up now will be a part of that initial run.

“Initially we’re only allowing access into it through the sharing. It creates a sense of exclusivity. But we expect it to spread. People like to get taken care of, and having deals on products they want is important. The sharing will come naturally,” Angela said.

“Being able to provide a curated experience for the masses is tough. So we’re keeping it small. It gives you a unique way to shop, with deals you can’t find anywhere on the internet — only on our app,” said her husband, Ivan Ramirez.

The app is designed so users only need to interact with the app for every part of their transaction. Ivan said the only email users will get from snach.it is the welcome email. From then on all interaction, including tracking packages, from shipment to delivery, will be within the app.

“With just three clicks, you can purchase and track your items,” he said.

The beta phase is only the start, though. In the next phase, Angela plans snach.it to become a marketplace where vendors can load their products onto the app through a self-serve platform. Down the road, she plans to add geo-targeting into the app, which will allow local restaurants and retailers to launch their own hyper-local “snach-es.”

“We’ve taken the best pieces of Groupon and Snapchat, and combined the two in a transactional app to provide the best experience to customers,” Angela said.

Ivan and Angela both hail from Colombia, and Angela runs the business out of their home in Lehi.
