The annual Utah Valley Job Fair will be held from 2-5 p.m. Tuesday at the Utah Valley Convention Center, 220 W. Center St. in Provo. The event is free for all job seekers, who will have the chance to interact with 120 companies with the possibility of interviewing for or being offered a position on the spot.
“(The day) is going to be pretty awesome,” said Patrick Donegan, workforce development specialist in the Utah Department of Workforce Services. “We have a wide array of employers from various industries. We have health care, finance, law enforcement, aerospace, manufacturing and a whole bunch of various other industries.”
A full list of the employers attending can be found at https://utahvalleyjobfair.com.
According to an event post on Facebook, “As the region’s largest job fair, it aims to bridge the gap between talent and career opportunities, fostering a dynamic platform for networking, learning, and recruitment.”
Between 1,500 and 3,000 job seekers attend each year, ranging from teenagers looking for their first job to executives, said Donegan, who has been the elected chair of the Utah Valley Job Fair for seven years. No registration is necessary, but he said they do suggest that job seekers update their resume and cover letter, tailored to employers of interest.
In addition to bringing plenty of resumes to give to potential employers, Donegan said a job seeker attending the job fair should have an elevator pitch prepared, bring a notepad and pen, bring any necessary documentation or paperwork that may be requested by an employer, and dress professionally.
On Facebook, Utah Valley Job Fair explained an elevator pitch, suggesting to “Craft a brief, compelling introduction that highlights your skills, experience and what you’re seeking in your next role.” To learn more about preparing an elevator pitch, visit https://bit.ly/47UDf7Z.
This is the 12th year of the job fair, which was started by the Department of Workforce Services, Utah Valley University and the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce. According to the event’s website, other community partners include Brigham Young University, the Utah Department of Veterans & Military Affairs, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Self-Reliance Services, Mountainland Technical College, Utah Valley Convention Center, and Alpine, Provo and Nebo school districts.
Some or all of the companies or organizations in the committee will have booths outside in the hallway of the convention center to give information about the community resources they provide. One of these organizations is Vocational Rehabilitation, an organization within the Department of Workforce Services that assists people with disabilities. They will be providing American sign language interpreters at the job fair for attendees.
In addition to the opportunity to network and find a potential employer, gift cards will be given away at random to those attending the job fair. Job seekers can also RSVP that they are attending the job fair to win prizes on Utah Valley Job Fair’s Facebook event page.
