Those looking for an authentic Asian dining experience will find themselves fit to be Thai-ed at Sabaidee Thai Cuisine in Lehi.

We ventured out to Sabaidee on a recent mid-week late lunch visit and enjoyed some delicious fare at good prices. We had read things get pretty busy at Sabaidee at lunch time, so we timed our visit to mostly avoid that crunch, catching the tail end of the midday rush. There was still a decent amount of patrons when we arrived, but by the time we were finished, the number had diminished to where just a few tables were occupied.

Our first impression upon entering the restaurant was, “Wow, there is a lot of space inside here!” Dining was contained to one specific area for lunch, but there were several large vacant rooms. Sabaidee definitely has the room to accommodate a pretty large crowd, as needed by demand.

We waited in the front lobby for a minute or two to be seated — the front counter, as it were, is not located in what passes for the lobby, but it is within view.

Being lunch time, we did not have access to the full dinner menu or appetizers — but there was a wide array of items available under the Lunch Special category. (Lunch runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) Lunch specials come with a $7.99 base price, which you can upgrade for a modest additional price by including specific meats or other ingredients. The curry and stir-fried plates also come with salad (a small bowl of lettuce only), a deep-fried spring roll and steamed rice.

Our food arrived with lightning-fast precision, just a few minutes after ordering.

I settled in with my Thai Cashew plate, which I upgraded to include chicken. The mixture included stir-fried onions, zucchini, cabbage, carrots, celery, cashews and broccoli marinated in soy sauce. It tasted great, especially when mixed with a forkful of rice.

Sampling my wife’s Pad Thai, which also included the addition of chicken, I was also delighted with a melange of great tastes. The noodles, onions, bean sprouts and egg mixture was placed atop a bed of extra-delicious sauce, with ground peanuts, razor-thin carrot slices and celery on the side.

My 21-year-old daughter who joined us, being a bit of a finicky eater, ordered the Thai Sweet and Sour Chicken — but with the chicken and sauce mixture (featuring bell peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, pineapple, carrots and onions) separated on the side. This was also an extremely flavorful dish. The breaded chicken pieces were just at that awkward-decision size — you know, do you plop a full piece in your mouth or cut it in half? I opted for the former, but realized too late that the latter would have been the wiser course of action. I figure it’s a good problem to have and it illustrates the semi-hefty size of the chicken pieces.

We typically order several different plates of food when doing reviews, to get a wider experience of the menu offerings, but almost always, I end up liking my own individual choice best. However on this occasion, I really enjoyed all the dishes equally and would be hard-pressed to pick an exclusive favorite.

That is, I should add, until I tried one of my takeout choices a day later. I had ordered the Avocado Curry as a takeout item, and warmed it up for lunch the next day. Holy cow — this was fantastic! The mixture included green curry paste with coconut milk, avocado, bamboo, onions, bell pepper and Thai basil, along with steamed rice. Upon further visits to Sabaidee Thai Cuisine, I would love to expand my experience by sampling several of the different curries available, as this one was pure delight.

Sabaidee Thai Cuisine is housed in a rather nondescript building on West State Street in Lehi. But inside the dining experience is anything but plain.
