"National Treasure: Edge of History" is streaming now on Disney+.

Move over Nic Cage, there are new treasure hunters in town — and they’re young. These energetic, inquisitive and fearless 20-year-olds inadvertently find themselves in the middle of an international search for a centuries-old treasure in this new series. They’re searching for the long-lost treasure of Montezuma.

Jess (Lisette Olivera) is living in Louisiana with her friends Ethan (Jordan Rodrigues), Oren (Antonio Cipriano) and Tasha (Zuri Reed). Unbeknownst to her, the necklace Jess wears, which belonged to her father, is a clue to a lost treasure. With fake FBI agents on their trail, Jess and her friends must outwit everyone while solving puzzles along the way. Lucky for her she has a special intelligence when it comes to puzzle solving.

This show is from Jerry Bruckheimer, who brought us the original and mesmerizing “National Treasure” movies starring Cage as treasure hunter Benjamin Gates. Harvey Keitel reprises his role as FBI Agent Sadusky in this TV series. Unfortunately, Cage does not make an appearance in this first season.

Also reprising his role is Justin Bartha as Cage’s wide-eyed-sidekick-turned-author Riley Poole, providing veteran mentorship to our new leads.

This TV series, which began streaming on Dec. 14 with the first two episodes, opens the door to a new mystery and another historical lost treasure. There are 10 episodes in the season with Catherine Zeta-Jones as the head antagonist.

While Jess unravels one clue after another that take her on a journey throughout the South, viewers see her intense dedication to solve the mystery of the lost treasure that held importance to an ancient civilization. While solving the puzzle, she might learn a little about the history of her family.

This is an intriguing series with fun, relatable characters. Jess is a new generation of treasure hunter, and that will have special appeal to teens and 20-somethings. But for those who are older and were captivated by the Ben Gates character, take heart. It is rumored “National Treasure 3” will be released in 2024 with Cage once again in the lead. We’ll have to wait to see if this comes to fruition.

In the meantime, “National Treasure: Edge of History” is bringing the intrigue and drama of the franchise to the small screen.

Starting at $4.32/week.
