The Springville Art Museum will open its 100th annual Spring Salon exhibition this Saturday, which will display more than 200 pieces of artwork from Utah artists.

This year, the museum received a record number of submissions — 1,450 — with the accepted submissions ranging from acrylic paintings to ceramics. Some artwork displays also will be available for purchase, with the museum receiving a commission from sales.

“The Museum invites visitors to explore the rich history and enduring legacy of the Spring Salon through exhibitions, a documentary film, publications, and special programs and events,” reads a press release from the museum.

The Spring Salon first began in 1922 by Springville High School students and has continued each year after, minus two years during World War II, and transformed into an exhibit featuring artists across the state.

Once the Springville museum opened up in 1937, the annual tradition moved from the high school to the museum.

To celebrate the milestone, the museum also will be displaying a yearlong exhibition featuring 100 pieces of work from past Spring Salon events.

The museum will be having an opening reception and awards ceremony at 7 p.m. Saturday that will be free and open to the public.

There also will be two showings of a documentary on the Spring Salon’s history at the Rivoli Theater — one on Friday and a second on Wednesday. The museum will host a handful of other events, which can be found on its website.

The Spring Salon exhibition will run through July 6. The Springville Museum of Art is free to the public and open Mondays from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., staying open until 8 p.m. on Wednesdays.
