Brokaw: ‘Ghosts’ continues to bring lighthearted viewing to fans
The hit CBS series “Ghosts” is now on its fourth season. All the ghosts are back and there’s an addition for a brief time. As Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) continue to run their bed-and-breakfast while dealing with the ghosts that live there, things get even whackier than ever.
Sam can see and talk with the ghosts, but Jay is oblivious to them. This provides some comic relief when he thinks he is talking to one but that ghost has left — or when he thinks he is alone, well, there might just be a ghost or two in the room.
Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones), Alberta (Danielle Pinnock), Trevor (Asher Grodman), Pete (Richie Moriarty), Thor (Devan Chandler Long), Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky), Flower (Sheila Carrasco), Sasappis (Román Zaragoza), Nigel (John Hartman), Nancy (Betsy Sodaro) and the cholera victims are now joined by Patience (Mary Holland), who is a staunch puritan.
Patience manages to cause a lot more havoc in the first episodes as she insists the house be run in a puritanical way. When she gets upset, the walls bleed, so it’s best not to upset this ghost.
When Sam’s father and girlfriend come to visit, Patience insists they have separate rooms. Sam and Jay don’t want the walls to bleed and they definitely don’t want to ire Patience, so they go along with her and insist on separate rooms for the older couple. This causes some problems between Sam and her father. And, as usual, the problems always come by way of the ghosts.
“Ghosts” has been nominated for several awards, including three Critics Choice Awards, a BAFTA and a People’s Choice Award. The ensemble has been nominated by the Online Film and Television Association. There are many other nominations that have been garnered by the show and the cast, and several associations have honored this sitcom through the years.
The interactions between the ghosts as well as their interactions with the living is entertaining and imaginative. It was taken from the popular British version. For those looking for a lighthearted sitcom, this might fit the bill.
“Ghosts” is now on its fourth season on CBS. Viewers can watch it on the network or stream it on Paramount+ along with all the previous season.
