Returning to the town of Honoré are Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet), Detective Sgt. Naomi Thomas (Shantou Jackson), Officer Sebastian Rose (Shaquille Ali-Yebuah), Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) and Mayor/restauranteur Catherine Borday (Elizabeth Bourgnine).

Harry the lizard is also back. It wouldn’t be the same without him. Joining the team this season is Sergeant Mattie Fletcher (Catherine Garton), who transferred to St. Marie from Jamaica and has a questionable past.

During the season, Commissioner Patterson decides to add more community interactions between the police and the public, after a newspaper attack painted him as uncaring toward the people.

DI Wilson’s brother Solomon (Daniel Ward), inflicts himself on his brother with some nefarious intentions. This is the brother Wilson never knew he had until he came to St. Marie (last season) in search of the mother who gave him up when he was a baby. And upon finding her, albeit too late, he discovered he has a half brother living on Antigua.

Wanting to establish a close connection with the only family member he has, Wilson tries to befriend Solomon, who is a grifter and a con-artist. Mervin is an upstanding police inspector, making for an uncomfortable relationship.

As Mervin gradually settles into life on the island, he gives up thoughts of returning to England. But there are some things he misses and attempts to introduce to the island. After all, as he says, a proper English pub has a dart board for the patrons. The problem is, this isn’t England and although Catherine runs a restaurant that serves drinks, she insists it is not a pub.

In the seventh episode Mervin gets a surprise visitor. He is, true to form, not happy about this. Eloise (Avah Cotterell) is a cute girl with some emotional baggage. And by the end of the season she has managed to endear herself to everyone there, and even Mervin himself.

“Death in Paradise” is filled with interesting police investigations, and in every season the DIs use their uncanny senses and instincts to solve the cases. Through the 15 seasons there have been four DIs in Honoré. Even though the main character has changed over the years, the uniqueness of the series remains fun and entertaining, along with the beautiful tropical scenery.

At the end of the eight episodes of this season, the series welcomes a new resident to St. Marie. There is a sixteenth season coming next year, as filming has already begun on location in Guadeloupe, which substitutes for St. Marie.

The series premiered in 2011. Gilet joined the show for the 14th season and is now firmly ensconced on the island and, to the surprise of everyone on his team, manages to solve the crimes with just a simple clue. Like his predecessors, this inspector has a unique way of looking at all the clues, the people, and figuring out exactly what happened and why.

Season 15 is just as engaging as the previous 14. “Death in Paradise” proves it has staying power with these eight episodes that viewers old and new will enjoy. All the seasons are now available to stream on BritBox. With intellect and humor, the characters always deliver enjoyable entertainment.
