August may bring school and the dog days of summer, but in Orem, before all the book work starts, there will be a free family-friendly Come Together Rock Festival.

The fourth annual festival will be held Friday from 2-9 p.m. and Saturday from 9:45 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the City Center Park and stage. Last year, more than 2,500 people attended the festival.

Residents are invited to come and enjoy some rockin’ music, food and culture. There will be more the 20 bands performing over the two-day event.

“It’s one of the greatest family festivals, with music from the old rock of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s,” said Gena Bertelsen, city liaison and director of the Senior Friendship Center. “This is the best way to end the summer.”

“This is my favorite weekend of the summer. I can’ say enough good about it,” Bertelsen added.

Bertelsen noted that she enjoys the Beatles contest. “Nothing rivals it.”

“Through the years, we’ve had seniors, pre-seniors, families and teenagers all come together for this event,” she said.

Joining the festivities will be the annual Antique Car Show showcasing the Northern Utah Mustang Owners Association teaming up with Doug’s Automotive.

Other sponsors include Cowdell Woolley, Wilder Productions, Big Rock Candy Mountain, Splash Summit, Spry Dental Defense and Best in Music.

“The festival is not just about music; it’s about bringing the community together. We will have food trucks showcasing local delicacies as well as give-away booths,” said Claire Roper, concert public relations. “As part of our commitment to giving back to the community, attendees will be encouraged to donate to this year’s charity partner, the American Red Cross.”

Thousands of prizes will be given out to kids of all ages at the event as well. Those planning to attend are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for relaxed viewing.
