Get ready for a night of fairy tales and fun with the Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater production of “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.” The show, running from now until May 3, is not one to miss, with its incredible detail, impressive set design and talented cast singing the timeless songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein.

The production at the Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater is a visual masterpiece. Frequently, I found myself in awe of how creative the set design was. Whether it was the cast coming into the crowd, the smoke coming off the stage or their ability to turn simple things into a horse-drawn carriage, they did not hold back in the “wow factor” of this show. The lighting and costume design were just as stunning, with details that bring the story’s elements to life. The pumpkin carriage, the grand ballroom and the transformation of Cinderella’s home all feel immersive and captivating, transporting the audience into the magical world of the classic fairy tale.

The cast performances are another highlight of the show. Hailey Sundwall plays Cinderella on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. She shines in this role, bringing so much grace and strength to the character, and the audience can see the thoughtfulness and kindness radiating from her as she performs. Her beautiful voice shines in songs like “In My Own Little Corner” and “A Lovely Night,” leaving the audience in awe.

Opposite her, the charming Prince, played by a charismatic Jeff Sundwall, is a perfect match. He brought not only talent to his role but also humor. Throughout the show, he would add subtle facial expressions, or change the way he spoke or sang — just enough to add a little humor that adds to the show. His voice, equal to his stage partner, was very melodic, and both of their voices blended nicely as they sang duets like “Ten Minutes Ago” and “A Lovely Night.” Both Hailey and Jeff, who happen to be married to each other, had a wonderful dynamic on stage, truly letting the crowd feel immersed in their love story.

Supporting characters such as the wicked stepmother, played by Julia Jolley, and the hilariously over-the-top stepsisters, played by Kalena Nielson and Jaymie Lambson, also shine, adding humor and tension to the story. The villainy of the stepmother is perfectly balanced with not only the comedic timing of her daughters but her comedic timing as well. Jolley added great flair to the role, creating an entertaining dynamic throughout the show. Additionally, the two stepsisters are not to be forgotten in their roles. Lambson’s performance of “Stepsister’s Lament” was top-tier. Not only does she have a beautiful voice, but the way she delivered some of the lyrics added an extra level of humor that the crowd loved.

The choreography and direction make use of the Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater’s more intimate theater, ensuring that every moment is felt by the audience. The ensemble cast also deserves praise for their energy and commitment to the production, bringing to life the world of the show with enthusiasm. Their combined voices created a beautiful backdrop and support to the classic songs of “Cinderella.”

The Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater itself provides the perfect setting for this production. The theater opened in January. The venue is modern and spacious with two theaters, designed to give theatergoers an unforgettable experience. With a warm, inviting atmosphere, it offers the ideal backdrop for this magical production.
