The new temple will be built in Marysville, about 35 miles north of Seattle in Snohomish County.
Elder Hugo E. Martinez of the United States West Area Presidency shared the announcement of the new temple from the First Presidency of the church during a devotional in the Marysville Washington Stake, according to a news release from the church.
“We are pleased to announce the construction of a temple in Marysville, Washington,” the First Presidency statement said, according to the release. “The specific location and timing of the construction will be announced later. This is a reason for all of us to rejoice and express gratitude for such a significant blessing — one that will allow more frequent access to the ordinances, covenants and power that can only be found in the house of the Lord.”
There are currently four constructed temples in Washington state (Seattle, Spokane, Columbia River and Moses Lake) and two more announced (Vancouver and Tacoma)
This is the second temple to be announced since President Dallin H. Oaks became president of the church and continues the church’s recent trend of announcing new temples at the locations where the temples will be constructed rather than to the church as a whole at general conference.
On Dec. 14, 2025, the church announced the Portland Maine Temple, the first in the state.
There are currently 214 temples worldwide. Ten temples have dedications scheduled, including the Lindon Utah Temple, set to be dedicated on May 3.
Groundbreakings have been held for 54 more temples, one groundbreaking is scheduled, 54 temples have had their site location announced and 51 more have been announced, according to data from churchofjesuschristtemples.org, a site that includes temple data but is not an official website of the church.
Church announces age-group name changes for young women
The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced age-group name changes for the young women’s program.
According to a news release, the new names are “Builders of Faith” (young women turning 12 or 13), “Messengers of Hope” (young women turning 14 or 15) and “Gatherers of Light” (young women turning 16 or older).
“The new names reflect divine identity, spiritual dignity, and progression and are intended to help young women understand their divine place in God’s work,” the release stated.
Young Women General President Emily Belle Freeman said in the release that a recent visit with young women in Tahiti helped the spiritual significance of the names become especially clear to her.
“As the girls sang, I was inspired to think of these covenant-keeping young women whose purpose and mission would be to build faith, share hope, and gather and reflect light around the world,” Freeman said. “My eyes teared up as I realized the Spirit had been leading this process all along, inspiring names of faith, hope, and light that would help God’s daughters live as disciples of Christ and prepare them to enter a lifelong sisterhood of charity–the Relief Society.”
