The Lehi volleyball team opened Region 7 play with a 3-1 win at home over Orem Tuesday. The Pioneers took the match 25-19, 25-20, 27-29, 25-17.

During the course of the contest, Christina Measom became Lehi’s top hitter with 17 kills. Lehi coach Jamie Ingersoll added, “Megan Zimmerman was a catalyst for us on defense. She made some great defensive plays. She finished the night out with 11 kills.” She also had 16 digs.

Through the course of the night, Zimmerman harassed the Tiger front line, which was led by Lindsey Jefferson and Anakari Bybee.

The match opened with an April Robins kill putting the Tigers on the board. A Measom spike tied the game at one, and Lehi pulled ahead 3-1.

Though Orem soon tied the game at five, a Zimmerman kill sent Lehi out to a 9-5 lead. The Tigers refused to let themselves get pushed deep into a hole.

Led by Bybee and Jefferson, they pulled within 15-14. A Measom kill slowed down their march. This allowed Lehi to build up a 19-14 advantage. A Kehau Ha’o block won the game for Lehi.

The second game opened with Lehi wiping away another 1-0 lead that Orem had posted on a Jefferson kill. In the early part of Game 2, the Tigers showed little cohesiveness.

After Orem had moved within 4-3 on a Julian kill, Zimmerman’s hitting and Britney Wilson’s blocking empowered the Pioneers to build up a 14-3 lead.

Before the game could end early, an Amy Gonzalez block tipped the momentum to Orem’s favor. The Tigers marched within 20-11. Lehi attempted to slow them down.

However, not even a 23-13, Pioneer lead could discourage Orem. Julian and Alecia Nilsson’s hitting pushed the Tigers within 24-20, but Katrina Warburton gave Lehi the game.

The third game saw Orem grab a 5-1 lead. ThoughWarburton tied the score at five, Lehi couldn’t pull ahead
