Family fun: Five reasons to smile in June

By Familyfun Magazine (Tns) - | Jun 9, 2015

Five reasons to smile in June include making a free playlist of a few of our favorite summery songs, celebrating Dad and learning how to fish.

1. Sing along to some toe-tapping tunes. We teamed up with popular kids’ musicians — including the Okee Dokee Brothers, The Pop Ups, Cathy Fink, Jazzy Ash, Key Wilde & Mr. Clark, Brady Rymer, and Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band — to make a free playlist of a few of our favorite summery songs. It’s available through July 31 from sugarmountainpr.com/summersongs.html.

2. Celebrate Dad on Father’s Day, June 21, by making a pop-up card featuring Little Nutbrown Hare from Sam McBratney’s beloved picture book “Guess How Much I Love You.” Find the template and instructions at candlewick.com/familyfun.

3. Enjoy truly out-of-this-world stories. This summer, astronauts on the International Space Station are reading picture books to kids. For details and a list of books, go to storytimefrom space.com.

4. On June 6, National Wildlife Refuges across the country are holding special family events with lessons and loaner rods. Find a site near you at fws.gov/refuges. Tales of the one that got away are optional.

5. Play Mosquito Tag, a seasonal twist on the age-old backyard game. “It” holds a piece of pool noodle against her forehead like a mosquito’s proboscis. When she tags another player with the noodle, that player stands in place and pretends to scratch. To free the itching player, another has to touch him and say “mosquito repellent!”

Starting at $4.32/week.
