July in Utah Valley: A month full of low-cost summer fun
Here we are, in the middle of summer. Hopefully, if you got a Seven Peaks Pass of all Passes, its coming in handy. If you didn’t, it is not too late. Go get one. It is good for one year from when you purchase it!
Personally, when July comes around, I feel as if though I have exhausted all my summer activities. I’ve gone to the park, I’ve gone to countless festivals, seen fireworks, had picnics and barbeques. What else is there to do? Nothing. Just kidding. There is still plenty to do! And there is plenty to do just in Utah Valley. I have picked out five things that you should not miss out on this month.
1. American Fork Steel Days
If you’re not tired of festivals yet or if you missed out on turkey legs at the Freedom Festival over the weekend, head over to American Fork this weekend for Steel Days.
Events include a Soap Box Derby, carnival, parade, fireworks, a car show and much, much more. For a full schedule of events, check out the Steel Days calendar here.
2. Footloose: The Musical
I decided to add “Footloose” to this list because … well, it’s “Footloose.” I know we are all wishing Kevin Bacon from the original film would be there (at least I am), but unfortunately he won’t be attending this particular production. A gal can dream though. “Footloose” is set to hit the SCERA Center for the Arts stage in Orem through July 16, so don’t miss out on a chance to support the local arts and dance in your seats.

3. Yoga at the library
Every Tuesday, head over to the Provo Library for a free yoga class. The best part about this class, other than the fact that its free, is that it starts at 7 p.m. I love yoga, but yoga in the morning is hard for me. Let’s be honest, anything in the morning is hard for me.
Interested? Check out the details on the Provo Library website here.
4. Reading Under the Rainbow
How cute is that?! On Wednesdays the BYU Museum of Art store will encourage you to sit under the Plexus no. 29 rainbow installation by Gabriel Dawe at the Museum so that a member of their team can read to you! This is FREE to all adults and children. Don’t be late, the reading starts at 10:30 a.m. For details, click here.
5. Movies in the Park
I love movies. I love the park. And Lindon has brought the two together for me … and everybody else who might be interested! Though movies outside in the summertime aren’t exactly an uncommon occurrence, Lindon’s line-up is definitely worth a gander. Movies start at dusk. Be sure to bring a blanket, a picnic and a lot of mosquito repellent! These movie showings are free to the public (thanks, Lindon), so just show up!
This month’s film will be Disney’s “Tangled,” and will be shown July 15 at the City Center Park (200 N. State St.) in Lindon.
“Kung Fu Panda 3″ is also a part of the lineup, the final film in the series set for Aug. 2 at Pioneer Park (150 S. 500 East) in Lindon. For a full list, click here.
Let me know if you get to one of these! I’d love to hear any comments or feedback you may have!
