Oh, the days of Taylorsville Dayzz: City celebration fun for the whole family
Summer is here, and so are the scrumptious cravings for kettle corn, funnel cakes, food trucks, snow cones and more.
What if I told you that you could find all of this plus rides, fireworks and entertainment all in one spot for not one, not two, but three days?! That’s right. Taylorsville Dayzz is among us and let me be the first to say, it’ll knock your socks off.
Now I may be a little biased, seeing as how I’m from Taylorsville, but this is the carnival of all carnivals. And this year, they are celebrating 20 years, which means it will be epic. I love going to Taylorsville Dayzz: I always eat good greasy food, hear great music, see people I want to see (and see a few people I don’t want to see) and watch amazing fireworks. Unfortunately, because I work, I only make it there on Saturdays (which, in my opinion, is the best day because it’s the night of the Firework Extravaganza). However, as I was reading this year’s schedule, I may or may not be calling in to work so I can make it to all three days (oh hey, boss).
The fun all starts on Thursday, June 23 at 4 p.m., when the park turns on its carnival rides (I’m coming for you, bumper cars). Also, the petting zoo, and pony and camel rides open! Who else is wondering if adults can ride a camel? I sure am.
Once 7 p.m. rolls around, the Utah Symphony will perform a concert, free of charge, so bring your blankets and head to the lawn in front of the main stage at Valley Regional Park (5100 S. 2700 West in Taylorsville). The food area will be open during the concert, so don’t worry, you can eat your funnel cake and watch the Utah Symphony perform at the same time (where else are you going to be able to do that?). Don’t leave after the concert because at 9:30 p.m., there will be a showing of “Cinderella” on the lawn. And if you are wondering where you could get a picture with Cinderella, wonder no more: starting at 8 p.m., Cinderella and Prince Charming will be taking pictures for free!
On Friday, June 24, the petting zoo will continue at 6 p.m., then don’t forget to get another funnel cake before going to sit down and listen the Surf City All Stars for a Beach Boys tribute! I’ve heard these guys before and trust me, they are legit. This concert is free, and if you stay until 10 p.m., you can catch the mini fireworks show.
The final day is Saturday, June 25. The Taylorsville Dayzz 5K and the Kids Race will start at 7:45 a.m. that morning at Valley Regional Park. If you want to run the 3.1 miles (I’m proud of you), you can register online at taylorsvilleut.gov. Then, at 9 a.m., a parade will begin! Did I not say this is the carnival of all carnivals? The parade starts at 1900 West and 5400 South and follows the road to 2700 West before continuing north on 2700 West.
Carnival rides and the petting zoo will open at 11 a.m. (for all you early birds), then at 8 p.m. Abbacadabra, an ABBA Tribute band, will perform on the main stage. Again, this is all free! Don’t forget to get there a little early so you can save your spot for the band and for the fire work show. The FIREWORK EXTRAVAGANZA (that’s actually what it’s called, I know) will start at 10 p.m. This firework show is amazing. It is 30 minutes of nonstop fireworks and will end with an extra bang to celebrate Taylorsville’s 20th birthday!
I hope you all can make it to one of these nights. It’s so worth it. There is no entrance fee and all entertainment is free (though unfortunately you do have to pay for food and rides)! Take your family, take your date, take your dog, take a stranger and get out to Taylorsville Dayzz. It’s worth the drive. I promise!
Taylorsville Dayzz is located in the Valley Regional Park, 5100 S. 2700 West. I’ll see you all there! I’ll be the gal dancing right in front of the stage to ABBA.
For those wanting a little more local fun this week, it’s good to note that the Lehi Roundup is going on right now! Here are 10 great things worth doing at that festival.
