5 ways to have fun with your family in Utah County this week

Utah County is a great place for family fun, with events across the valley for all ages.

Here are five fun events that are perfect for the whole family this week:

Enjoy Art City Days

With school out, the season of city celebrations is well under way with this week focusing on Art City Days in Springville.

Spotlight events at the celebration include a 5K Family Fun Run/Walk, the Art City Days Hometown Rodeo, a free outdoor movie, the Fun-A-Rama, Battle of the Bands, Fireman’s Breakfast, Balloon Fest, carnival, Grand Parade and fireworks. Join the Guppy Group

Though there’s plenty at the Springville Museum of Art for all ages to enjoy throughout the year, for ultimate fun for little ones, head to the museum’s Guppy Group, a free and interactive two-session program for toddlers that is held the first Tuesday of every month. The group incorporates play, singing, storytelling and hands-on art creation related to galleries within the museum.

You can also jump in on fun for older kids this week at the Children’s Art Festival, hosted by the museum as a part of Art City Days. The event includes art making, storytelling, face painting and more, all free of charge.

When: 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday for the Guppy Group, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday for the Children’s Art Festival

Head to the Cedar Hills Family Festival

Another area celebration happening this week is the Cedar Hills Family Festival, which will run through Saturday at locations across the city. Highlights include a free car show and car parade, a fun run, a family dinner, parade, children’s activities and fireworks, with full event details at cedarhills.org/news-events/family-festival.

See ‘Newsies’ under the stars

The SCERA Center for the Arts kicked off its outdoor season with a concert on Memorial Day and will continue the fun under the stars with its first outdoor production for 2019: Disney’s “Newsies,” the Broadway musical.

The show is set to open Friday with tickets ranging from $10-$18 and seating options including on the lawn, or in reserved areas.

When: Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Saturday at 8 p.m.

Where: SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre, 600 S. 400 East in Orem

Catch an outdoor film

With the weather warming up, it’s great to be outside, especially in the spring when it’s not too hot. Enjoy the sunset and the beauty of the outdoors while catching a movie at one of several outdoor movie screenings across Utah County happening this week.

Cedar Hills Family Festival Outdoor Movie is set for Friday, featuring “Ralph Breaks the Internet” at Heritage Park Amphitheater, 4425 W. Cedar Hills Drive in Cedar Hills.

Also Friday is Lindon Movies in the Park, showing “Smallfoot” at City Center Park, 200 N. State St. in Lindon.

Finally, a second shot at “Ralph Breaks the Internet” will be included with Provo Movies in the Park Monday at Rock Canyon Park, 2620 N. 1200 East in Provo.

All screenings begin at dusk.
