5 ways to have fun with your family in Utah County this week

Utah County is a great place for family fun, with events across the valley for all ages.

Here are five fun events that are perfect for the whole family this week:

Dive ‘Under the Sea'

Find out if the seaweed really is greener in somebody else’s lake with the SCERA Center for the Arts’ production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.” Presented by the SCERA’s award-winning high school company Acting UP, the show will wrap up this week with tickets ranging from $8-$10.

When: 7:30 p.m. daily through Saturday

Where: SCERA Center for the Arts. 745 S. State St. in Orem

Express your passion for science

Provo annual Kid’s Science Palooza is coming to the city’s Recreation Center this weekend, with a focus on astronomy and outer space. The event will include science shows, demonstrations and discovery rooms with a free swag bag for each participating child. Tickets are $5 for kids under 18 and free for children 2 and under and for adults with a paying child.

When: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or 2-4:30 p.m. Saturday

Where: Provo Recreation Center, 320 W. 500 North in Provo

Play with trains

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the ceremonial driving of the Golden Spike that connected the rails of the First Transcontinental Railroad across the United States at Promontory Summit in the Utah Territory.

This weekend you can celebrate that heritage at the Golden Spike 150th Anniversary Model Train Show at University Place. The event is free and open to the public.

When: 6-9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. March 30

Where: The north end of University Place, 575 E. University Parkway in Orem

Celebrate spring

Welcome the start of spring with the Holi Festival of Colors at the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork. Set for Friday and Saturday, the event will include interactive dance, bands, DJs, yoga and food, with regular opportunities to experience an explosion of color.

When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday

Where: Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple, 311 W. 8500 South in Spanish Fork

See the stars

Now through April 12, every Friday night you can stare at the stars from the climate-controlled comfort of the BYU Planetarium with weekly “Out of This World” showings. Tickets to the shows are $3 and go on sale at 6:30 p.m. No late entry is allowed.

When: 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. each Friday through April 12

Where: The BYU Planetarium in the Eyring Science Center on Brigham Young University campus
