For the third consecutive year, community members are invited to participate in a health fair sponsored by Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions and the United Way of Utah County.

The free health fair will take place from 4-6 p.m. Sept. 20 at the South Franklin Community Center (770 S. 700 West) in Provo. Translation services for Spanish speakers will be provided.

With the supervision of skilled health care professionals, student volunteers from RMU’s Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Physician Assistant Studies, Master of Science in Medical Speech-Language Pathology and Doctor of Optometry programs will provide health care screenings and information on available services to attendees.

The students and faculty also represent the RMU Health Clinics, which offer a variety of free and low-cost services to the community.

“Events like these take health care right into the heart of a community and give our students a great opportunity to engage with people, love and lift those in need, meet people where they are, see people for who they are and help improve their quality of life,” RMU President Dr. Cameron K. Martin said.

This is one of multiple collaborations between RMU and the United Way of Utah County at the South Franklin Community Center. The community hub offers Spanish and English after-school programs for children, family activities, adult education and more.

“The center serves as a vital space for neighbors to connect, learn and grow together,” said United Way of Utah County Senior Director of Resource Development and spokesperson Janie Brigman.

The health fair provides an opportunity for free healthcare services for underserved and uninsured people and families in Utah County that they might not otherwise receive.

At RMU’s health fair in September 2023, more than 200 people, including many children, received health care assessments, testing and information. Some attendees were referred to community clinics for further care.

Services offered by RMU’s programs include:

  • Physician assistants: Adult health screenings (blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol panel, weight), ASCVD risk scores and minimal child health screenings.
  • Physical therapists: Child development, balance, grip strength and other screenings.
  • Optometry: Vision screenings.
  • Speech-language pathology: Hearing and literacy screenings.

In addition to RMU health care professionals, community partners Community Health Connect, Kids on the Move, Molina Healthcare, Centro Hispano, Holy Cross, SLCC Pre-Dental, 211 and Welcome Baby also provide resources.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Rocky Mountain University to bring essential health screenings and services to the South Franklin neighborhood,” Brigman said. “This health fair offers a unique opportunity for residents to access vital care without the usual barriers, helping to improve the overall health and well-being of our community.
