Riding through the woods on a high mountain trail east of Fillmore at the National ATV/UTV Jamboree.Fillmore is once again the host of the National ATV/UTV Jamboree. It is dubbed National because it was the first jamboree to be held in the nation. The dates are set for Tuesday, June 16, through Friday, June 19.
Registration is online at https://millardcounty.com/events/utv-atv-jamboree. On Tuesday, riders will pick up registration packets and choose rides from 4 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Fees this year are $120 per adult and $88 per child 6-18. It includes a breakfast each morning, two dinners, a jamboree T-shirt, a ticket for a Poker Run, and a swag bag full of coupons and other goodies. Raffle tickets are $5 or 5 for $20.
The Poker Run will be held on Thursday, June 18. Instead of being conducted on one ride, all riders on that day’s rides will participate. Each guide will conduct the card draws at stops on the rides they are guiding. One hand is included with the packets picked up at sign-in, but additional hands can be purchased for $5 each or 5 hands for $20.
A new event is being offered this year before registration opens. It will be a skeet shoot at 2 p.m. Participants will need to bring their own shotguns and ammo.
The jamboree’s headquarters will be at the Territorial Statehouse State Park in Fillmore. This is also a gathering place for jamboree participants to enjoy live entertainment each night. The meals will be served there, raffles will be conducted, and the rides will begin from the park.
One of the best reasons to participate in an ATV jamboree is the guided rides. Guides are selected from a broad network of experienced ATV enthusiasts who know the trails and points of interest throughout the Fishlake National Forest and the West Desert. Many guides were born and raised in Fillmore and bring years of riding experience, local history, and practical trail knowledge to each ride. They’re always happy to share insights and answer questions along the way.
Fillmore is situated near the Paiute ATV Trail System, which features a 275-mile loop trail with no beginning or end! It passes through several towns and has side trails leading to others. Dirt Wheels magazine rates the Paiute ATV Trail as one of the 15 best trails in the country. It has been rated among the top five trails in the country by ATV Illustrated magazine. Many riders consider the Paiute Trail to be the top in the United States. It is also the largest trail system in the country.
The National Jamboree was my first jamboree as a new rider. I was thrilled to explore new trails, and I carefully recorded GPS tracks so I could bring friends to share the beauty of these trails. I love the trails I can ride from Fillmore.
The rides have not been set for this year’s event, but they will be similar to those offered last year. Trails are selected based on the conditions of the trails just before the jamboree opens. Snow levels have prevented some of the higher-elevation trails from opening by the time the jamboree begins.
Last year’s list of trails is available to study on the website. With this jamboree, trails are selected on Tuesday when you sign in and pick up your packet, not when you register. Limits are set on the number of riders allowed on each ride. It is wise to arrive early to secure the best selections.
A couple of lunch runs are being offered at this year’s jamboree. One is called the Oriental Ride to Fortune. People on this ride will go over the mountain into Richfield and dine at the South China Restaurant, where riders will pay for their own meals. The other ride is called the Sister City Lunch Run. Lunch will be provided at no charge in the Richfield City Park. I love a good lunch run.
Rides are also scheduled for the west desert, which include exploring lava tubes and the amazing Lace Curtain – a huge wall of lava extrusions formed underwater. Located on the side of an extinct volcano, it appears to be a wall of melted wax. The lava extrusions are fascinating, and some large birds have found it ideal for nesting.
One of the west desert rides includes Meadow Hot Springs, a popular spot for a relaxing soak in crystal-clear waters. When you go, take plenty of water, keep the rubber side down, and sign up for the National ATV/UTV Jamboree. You will be glad that you did.
