CRAIG DILGER/Daily Herald UVSC President William A. Sederburg announces the unveiling of the official logo for UVU at UVSC on Friday, November 30, 2007.

Utah Valley State College has wanted to play the role of Utah Valley University all year, and now they look it. Today UVSC unveiled new logos for the school and athletics. The school also unveiled a new fight song. UVSC becomes UVU July 1, 2008.

“It’s quite a process,” said Val Hale, UVSC vice president and co-chairman of the school’s image committee.

The new university monogram keeps UVSC’s signature color green, and has a hidden shape of Utah in the first U of UVU. Instead of yellow, the new logos use a golden shade. The mascot is still a wolverine, but the redesigned wolverine has a more three-dimensional feel. The designers turned the wolverine so both eyes show and tried to make it look more like the real animal.

“This wolverine is angry at the moment and ready to pound Oregon State,” said Eric White, vice president of creative services at Rare Method, the firm that designed the logos.

The UVSC basketball team plays Oregon State at home Saturday. The game will end the school’s homecoming week.

UVSC hired Salt-Lake based marketing firm Rare Method in June to create the new look. Hale said the school started the design process early because the new logo effects everything from signs, to letter-heads to T-shirts. Anything with a logo has to be replaced.

The school also gave students a sneak peek at the new web site. It is based around a bulletin board theme. Users can roll over items and information will pop up in a changing window.

Starting at $4.32/week.
