Former LDS general authority George P. Lee dies
Former LDS general authority George P. Lee died in Provo’s Utah Valley Regional Medical Center on Wednesday at age 67 after lengthy illnesses, according to a report in the Salt Lake Tribune.
Lee, a Navajo, had been a member of the LDS Church’s First Quorum of Seventy but was excommunicated in 1989 during the tenure of church president Ezra Taft Benson. Lee had resisted changes in the church’s policies toward Native Americans and later admitted to attempted sex abuse of a 12-year-old child.
Funeral services are set for Tuesday, 11 a.m., at at the LDS Buena Vista Stake Center, 860 N. Fairway Drive in Washington City, Utah, according to the report, and burial will be in the Washington City Cemetery.
