‘Will It Blend’ videos proclaimed best viral marketing campaign
Blendtec wins advertising award — Apparently people love watching blenders destroy iPhones, pool noodles and sports equipment.
This fall, marketing publication Adage proclaimed the popular “Will It Blend” videos the best viral marketing campaign of all time. The online videos advertise blenders produced by Orem-based company Blendtec. Typically each video runs between one and two minutes in length and shows the blender destroying common household objects including electronics, bottles of cologne and, occasionally, actual food that might realistically end up in a blender.
According to Adage, the “sleeper hit” campaign has racked up 134,256,499 all time views by finding a winning formula and sticking to it.
“Each of the more than 120 original clips has the same kitschy music, the same tag line, variations on the same stunt and the same host, Blendtec CEO Tom Dickson,” the publication explains.
The campaign was designed in house and, according to Adage, bested others by notable companies such as Pepsi, Microsoft, T Mobile and Doritos. The campaign also was used to share news of Blendtec’s recent victory in a lawsuit with a competing company that imitated its designs.
