Provo teen hospitalized after group of girls pull out her hair

By Rhett Wilkinson daily Herald - | Mar 21, 2018

A 15-year-old girl was hospitalized after several girls pulled out her hair and scratched her.

Six to eight girls, each 15 to 16 years old, were on the scene between Coleman Veterinary Hospital and Day’s Market in Provo, Police Sgt. Nisha King said, near 3121 N. Canyon Road.

“She went to the hospital because she had her hair pulled out,” King said.

After the hospitalization occurred, patrol and school resource officers remained on the scene.

The incident is continuation of hostility that’s been ongoing between female students at Timpview High School, King said.

“It sounds like it’s something that has gone forth between the girls,” King remarked.

Timpview is where the fight started, when a girl threw a drink on another girl, King said.

“Obviously, this is not a way to resolve conflict,” King said. “I think (the incident) is predominantly going to be taken care of in the school.”

Provo City School District is aware of ongoing incidents, said Caleb Price, district spokesman, in a written statement.

“We continue to investigate and monitor what is happening and any and all discipline will be handled internally,” Price said. “Since this incident occurred off of district property, we are directing all questions to the Provo Police Department.”

The incident occurred at 9:47 a.m. Wednesday — before even early lunch, King said.

“In theory, (the girls) should have been on school grounds,” King remarked.

At about noon March 22, the Daily Herald received the following from Caleb Price with Provo City School District:

“We continue to investigate and monitor what is happening and any and all discipline will be handled internally. Since this incident occurred off of district property, we are directing all questions to the Provo Police Department.”
