The heart of young talent curation is alive and well at Caleb Chapman’s Soundhouse in Pleasant Grove, a contemporary music training program for youth ages 10-18 that develops future stars before the rest of the world catches on.
Students receive mentoring by respected musicians and educators — all with a common goal of helping young musicians build their skillsets in performing, recording, touring and technology.
Caleb Chapman, founder and executive producer of the Soundhouse, created the program in 1998 to provide young and aspiring musicians with the resources and tools to realize their dreams.
The Soundhouse students are put into bands, many who have landed life-changing opportunities to play on some of the world’s biggest stages with members of popular groups such as Journey, The Killers, Maroon 5, Neon Trees, the Dave Matthews Band, Toto, AC/DC and many more, according to a description on the school’s website.
As the Daily Herald reported earlier this year, around 200 young musicians from the Soundhouse were joined by legendary musician Huey Lewis on stage during a tribute to his career held in February at the Eccles Theater in Salt Lake City.
Caleb Chapman’s Soundhouse is gearing up for another massive celebration of music with its first-ever Big Noise Festival featuring 16 bands, to be held on Saturday.
“We created the Big Noise Festival as a way to thank the community for their support with a free concert featuring some of the most talented musicians in the state,” Chapman said. “In addition to the live, world-class music that is guaranteed to get you on your feet, musicians ages 10-18 can tour the Soundhouse studio and get information on joining one of the award-winning Soundhouse bands and take the next step in their musical journey.”
The Big Noise Festival looks to provide a true concert experience. Performances will be held on two stages, including the Soundbox venue located inside the Soundhouse at 2415 W. 700 South, Suite S, in Pleasant Grove.
The second stage will be stationed in the parking lot of the Tesla dealership of Pleasant Grove, located just steps away at 2265 W. 700 South in Pleasant Grove.
In addition to a day filled with music and exploring local talented musicians, the Big Noise Festival will also feature a variety of family-friendly activities, such as games, giveaways, food trucks, test drives of the newest Teslas and more.
The Soundhouse’s award-winning music program for young musicians spans a wide range of contemporary genres including rock, jazz, soul, reggae, blues and more allowing for the selections performed throughout the day to appeal to a diverse spectrum of music consumers.
“Whether your favorite songs are alternative hits of today, classic rock or even jazz, with so many bands playing over a dozen different styles, there’s literally something everyone will love,” Chapman told the Daily Herald.
The event gets underway Saturday at noon and runs through approximately 10 p.m.
