In a key milestone for the Alpine School District split, Lake Mountain, Aspen Peaks and Timpanogos school district board members were sworn into their new positions last week.
The seven school board members in each new district will set out to hire a superintendent and prepare for July 1, 2027, when the Alpine School District is dissolved and the new districts officially begin operations.
In the temporarily named Lake Mountain School District, which covers Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs, Fairfield and Cedar Fort, Julie King (Seat 2) — the current board president of the Alpine School District — was named board president, and Matt Isaacson (Seat 5) was named vice president.
Julie Myers (Seat 1), Charity Judkins (Seat 3), Ilene Strong (Seat 4), Melissa Sauser (Seat 6) and Joylin Lincoln (Seat 7) were also sworn in as board members.
Lake Mountain approved a proposed $750,000 budget for the 2026 fiscal year, which will run Jan. 1 through June 30 of next year. The district also formed a superintendent search committee and a committee to determine a permanent school board name.
In the Aspen Peaks School District, covering Lehi, American Fork, Highland, Alpine and pockets of Draper, the board elected Diane Knight (Seat 1) as board president and Amber Bonner (Seat 4) as vice president.
Nicki Brammer (Seat 3), Steve Sparti (Seat 2), Jason Hart (Seat 5), Jeanne-Marie Burrows (Seat 6) and Jason Theler (Seat 7) were also sworn in.
The board also approved Aspen Peaks School District as the official name of the district.
In the Timpanogos School District, as previously reported, Jennifer Lyman (Seat 2) was named board president and Sterling Hilton (Seat 7) was named vice president.
Guy Fugal (Seat 1), David H. Smith (Seat 3), Ada Wilson (Seat 4), Michelle Sorensen (Seat 5) and Grace Rex (Seat 6) were also sworn in.
The Timpanogos School District formed committees to decide on a permanent name and a new superintendent.
The three-way split of the Alpine School District was a result of two propositions from residents in the north and central parts of the district to form new districts in 2024.
Residents in Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs, Cedar Fort and Fairfield approved Proposition 14 in 2024 to split into a new west district, while Alpine, Cedar Hills, Highland, Lehi and sections of Draper approved Proposition 11 to form a new central district.
The south district, encompassing Pleasant Grove, Lindon, Orem and Vineyard, was formed by default.
