Rosalie Freund was out playing with her siblings during the week of July 22 and went unaccounted for a 2.5-hour period, at which time authorities believe she entered the family’s vehicle at their residence.
In a search for the girl, a family member checked the vehicle and located her, and first responders arrived to perform CPR and take her to the hospital, American Fork Lt. Ryan Archuleta said. She was in critical condition for two days before she died.
Archuleta said the child locks were engaged in the back seat, so if she tried those doors, she could not have gotten out. He said the front seat doors were unlocked.
Authorities are not pursuing charges.
“At this point, it’s just a tragic accident,” Archuleta said. “We don’t see any neglect by the the parents at this time.”
A fundraiser was launched to raise funds for the family to assist with medical bills and other costs.
