Brigham Young University’s on-campus married housing district will soon be getting an infrastructure upgrade that school officials say will enhance living facilities and the overall student experience.

The university announced last week that it plans to tear down nine apartment buildings at Wymount Terrace and replace them with 11 new buildings.

“Wymount Terrace has served BYU student families for more than 60 years,” BYU CFO and administration vice president Steve Hafen said in a news release. “This investment will help ensure that those who call Wymount home continue to have an affordable, supportive environment where they can thrive.”

Construction will begin this month and is estimated to take two years, according to BYU. In the meantime, families affected by construction have been relocated to comparable housing accommodations. On Tuesday, a temporary fence line was seen surrounding the vacated buildings.

The finished product will be 11 three-story structures that will have two and three-bedroom apartments.

“This project aims to enhance living facilities and the overall student experience while fostering Christ-centered communities,” Todd Fischio, director of residence life at BYU, added in the news release. “In the future, families will have access to affordable, conveniently located, energy-efficient and well-maintained apartments.”

Wymount Terrace is reserved for families with at least one full-time student at BYU. The facility was built in 1962.

Starting at $4.32/week.
