Utah Board of Higher Education appoints new UVU president

New Utah Valley University President Jon Anderson is pictured.Utah Valley University’s next president has been chosen.
The Utah Board of Higher Education voted Friday to appoint Jon Anderson, a Utah native and president of PennWest University, to the position.
Anderson’s selection finalized a national search conducted by the Presidential Search Committee and the Utah Board of High Education to replace Astrid S. Tuminez, who stepped down as president in May.
The board said applicants were evaluated on their academic credentials, leadership, experience and community engagement.
Anderson graduated from Bingham High School and Utah State University. He received a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Kentucky and an M.Ed. in business education from the University of West Georgia.
He served as provost and vice president of academic affairs at Southern Utah University and Middle Georgia State University. He was appointed president of PennWest on July 1, 2024.
